It’s the first day of early voting in the battleground state of Georgia and it’s on a glide path to set a record-breaking pace of people headed to the polls to cast their ballot.

According to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, “By noon, about 122,000 Georgia voters had already cast ballots, and the state was well on track to surpass the 136,000 voters who voted on the first day of early voting in 2020 and the 134,000 who voted on the same day in 2022.”

Four people have died in a car crash in France after their Tesla vehicle reportedly hit a road sign and caught fire, police said Monday.

A Texas man shot and wounded two deputies during a traffic stop before they returned fire and killed him, authorities said Monday.

A Callaway County deputy initiated a traffic stop around 3:35 a.m. Monday on Interstate 70, the county’s sheriff’s office said in a news release. A second deputy arrived a short time later.

Deputies learned that the driver, a 37-year-old man from Texas, had several felony warrants for alleged drug trafficking and assaulting a law officer. A short time later, deputies notified dispatchers that the man was resisting arrest, then reported shots fired.

A local police spokesman, Lt. Eric Hoarau, said the exact circumstances of the crash Saturday night near the city of Niort were still to be determined and an investigation was underway.
